Smyrna Gets Hot, Downs Sussex Tech On Its Senior Night

In the final home game of the regular season for Sussex Tech boy’s basketball, Smyrna was the spoiler on senior night, getting red hot from behind the arc to pull out a road victory, 71-57. The Eagles improve to 15-5 with the victory, while the Ravens move to 9-10.

There was scoring early and often in this one, as Sussex Tech’s Shi’Wan Sykes cashed in on his team’s first seven points to take a quick 7-2 lead. But the Eagles fought back, getting hot from three range, Ja’Vier Worthy dropped in three from behind the arc and Caleb Matthews added a fourth. Matthews didn’t cool down in the second quarter, hitting three more. He finished the night with five of the Eagles’ 10 total.

The Ravens looked to chip away at Smyrna’s lead in the second half, but a strong fourth quarter that saw the Eagles cash in on 20 points to Sussex Tech’s nine was enough to put the game away.

Although the Ravens fell, Sykes led all scorers with 26 points, including three from behind the arc. Worthy paced the Eagles with 22 points, with four three-pointers, while Matthews finished with 15.
