Seahawks Hold On In Overtime Against Eagles

The Stephen Decatur High School boy’s basketball team played host to Snow Hill on Tuesday night, and didn’t disappoint fans in attendance, needing overtime to take a 59-57 decision. The Seahawks improve to 8-9 for the season, while the Eagles fall to 4-11.

Trailing for most of the game, Snow Hill battled back and finally took the one-point lead with less than a minute left on a two good free-throws by VeShawn Bratten. Down to the other end, Decatur saw multiple chances to retake the lead but couldn’t get anything to fall until Tyree Henry was sent to the charity stripe where he hit 1-of-2 to tie the game up and send the game to overtime.

Winning the opening tip, Seahawks’ JaQuan Johnson made it count, scoring on the first possession with a nice four-foot floater down the lane to give Decatur a two-point lead.

Trailing by two with time ticking down, Snow Hill went for the game-winner, seeing Ameer Fisher fire up a three-pointer from the left wing, but was off the mark as Keve Alum pulled down the board as time expired.

Decatur was paced by Johnson’s game-high 15 points, while Manny Pinkney led the Eagles with 14.

The Seahawks remain at home to host James M. Bennett on Thursday at 5:30. Snow Hill heads home for their next game against Crisfield on Thursday at 5:30.
