Polytech Finishes Regular Season Unbeaten In Delaware, Drops Cape Henlopen
The Polytech Panthers completed one of their season goals tonight, finishing the season 19-1 and undefeated in Delaware, after beating Cape Henlopen 73-58 Friday night.
The Panthers came out of the gate dominant, starting the game on a 7-0 run, with 5 points coming from senior wing Juwan Gray. With 6 players scoring in the first, and Gray with 7 points in the frame, Polytech took an 18-4 lead after one quarter. By the half, the lead had swelled to 24, (43-19) with three Panthers in double figures. Gray’s 13, Chase Chappel’s 10, and Devaughn Mallory’s 9 gave the Vikings all kinds of fits for the first 16 minutes.
Much of the second half was played by Panther reserves, but in total, Devaughn Mallory finished with a game-high 21 points, while Gray and Chappen ended their nights with 15 and 14, respectively. Drew Mulcahy led Cape with 16 points, while Jordan Howell chipped in with 14.
Polytech will finish with at least a share of the best regular season record in Delaware, depending on how Mt. Pleasant (17-1) finishes season. With all regular season games needing to be wrapped up by Wednesday, February 23, Polytech will be awaiting their seeding in the state tournament. The Panthers also await an opponent in the Henlopen championship game, with the south up in the air between Milford, Laurel, and Delmar, to be decided by Wednesday.
