Polytech D’s Up, Shuts Smyrna Down
The highly anticipated rematch between Polytech and Smyrna came back around Thursday night, with Polytech leaving no doubt about their earlier season win against the Eagles, defeating them again 54-38 in Smyrna.
Smyrna was without leader Stedman Kpana, out for his fourth consecutive game with an injury. The Panthers would take full advantage, shutting down the Eagles. Polytech played great defense, allowing just eight points in the first quarter, and seven in the second quarter. Offensively, Polytech was carried in the first half by Chase Chappel (6 points) and Ricky Hicks (8 points).
In the third quarter, looking to get the scoring going, Smyrna would only come up with nine points. Although they scored 14 in the final quarter, it was too late. For the game, Chappel led Poly with 15 points, while Juwan Gray and Hicks finished with 12 and 10 respectively. Latrelle Lee led Smyrna with 14 points.
