Polytech Defeats Brandywine To Cap Perfect Home Season
The Polytech boys basketball team capped off a perfect home season Thursday night when they defeated Brandywine 61-48. The win improves the Panthers to 18-1 on the year.
Polytech would come storming out of the gate as DeVaughn Mallory would connect on a long ball followed by a short baseline jumper for 5 quick points. He would finish with 9 points in the first quarter alone as the Panthers would take a 18-6 lead into the second frame. There they kept up their pressure, as they would stretch their lead to 32-21 by halftime.
The Panthers defense would pick up in the second half, led by Ricky Hicks. The senior got into every Bulldog guard he saw, making them uncomfortable all night long, and forcing several turnovers. The lead would stretch to 42-30 by the end of the third quarter, and the Panthers would go on to put the game away in the 4th.
Mallory led the Panthers offensively, finishing with 16 points. Hicks chipped in 14 points, while Gabe Brown finished with 12 points and John Pierce has 10.
Polytech returns to action Friday when they travel to Cape Henlopen.
