Office of Animal Welfare holds hearing for new regulations

Newly proposed Animal shelter regulations were the topic of discussion at a public hearing in Dover Monday.

The proposed rules call for specific requirements when it comes to putting animals down humanely; and for the technicians actually euthanizing the animals.

They would have to have certain training and certification requirements. Animal welfare officials say the regulations are also intended to ensure the protection and care of pets being held in shelters and increase their opportunities for adoption, and being found.

Christina Motoyoshi, the deputy director of the Office of Animal Welfare “We’ll take all of that information and incorporate it. We’ll see where there might be areas where we need to change the regulations. Then, we’ll post the final regulations either in March or April, in which time they would be finalized.”

Officials say written comments on the proposed regulations will be accepted through March 10th until 4:30 p.m.
