MD public schools gear up for testing

Public schools in Maryland are gearing up for new standardized testing.

High school, middle and elementary students will start testing in March through the Partnership for Assessment of Readiness for College and Careers. It’s an exam connected to the Common Core State Standards for math and reading proficiency.

School districts statewide provided students with a recent demonstration of the computer based exams.

Advocates for the test say the standards encourage students to apply knowledge more rigorously.

However opponents, like Governor Larry Hogan, say the exam won’t solve the state’s education gap.
