Local residents weigh in on speed limit measure

A measure passed in Maryland Senate on Thursday would allow motorists to put a little more pedal to the medal. It appears, it’s not just opposing lawmakers who have mixed feelings but it’s also state residents.
Much like Senator George Edwards, a Garrett County republican, who proposed this measure, some say increasing highway speed limits from 65 to 70 is beneficial for motorists.
“A trip from here to Virginia would take almost three to four hours. If they increase the speed limit, it would definitely reduce the time to get to where I’m going.” Says A.J. Scott.
Others, such as Tashawn West, say it could pose a big safety risk.
“I don’t really think it’s a good idea because of the simple fact that a lot of people don’t use their signal lights and there’s a lot of careless drivers, you know? A lot of people…70 miles per hour? You’re going to be having a lot of people doing 80 miles per hour.” Says West.
This measure has not yet been approved by the House.
