Lewes barn fire ruled as arson

A barn fire in Lewes was reportedly caused by arson, investigators are now looking for information.

The Delaware State Fire Marshal’s Office says on Friday night, around 10:50 PM, flames broke out at a 50′ x 100′ barn on Gills Neck Road. Firefighters from the Lewes Volunteer Fire Department responded to the scene and reportedly found heavy fire throughout the structure.

Officials say crews with the Lewes, Rehoboth Beach, Milton, Indian River, and Memorial Volunteer Fire Companies worked to put out the blaze. No injuries were reported. Damages are apparently estimated at $150,000.

Investigators say the fire was caused by arson, and are asking anyone with information on the incident to contact the Office of the State Fire Marshal at 302-856-5600 or 1-800-847-3333.
