Legislation in VA could prevent euthanization by PETA

A measure in Virginia may be a big step towards stopping the euthanization of animals at the hands of PETA.
Senate Bill 1381 would redefine the role of a private animal shelter in the state, to a place that would find permanent homes for the animals, and find other options that would not involve killing the animals.
The measure comes after a Parksley man’s pet dog, Maya, was taken off his porch and euthanized by two PETA workers when he was not home back in November.
Community members rallying around the issue, who started a Facebook group, Stand For Maya, are encouraging residents to contact their local representatives in Virginia.
Virginia Commonwealth Attorney, Gary Agar, decided not to prosecute the workers back in November. He told 47 ABC that the dog did not have any identification so there is no proof of criminal intent.
