Law enforcement warn against snowball fights

Snow ball fights can be a lot of fun for kids, but local law enforcement say they can also become dangerous.

When snow freezes and turns that snow ball into an ice ball, throwing it is almost equivalent to throwing a rock at someone.

Icy snow balls can cause black eyes, head injures, and other harmful incidences.

Lieutenant Tim Robinson with the Wicomico County Sheriff’s Office says,”If you pummel someone with snow balls and they don’t want to be, or they’re not in a playful mood, then technically they could make a complaint that you’ve assaulted them. As crazy as that seems, technically assault is when you make contact with anybody or throw an object at somebody against their will.”

The Wicomico County Sheriff’s office says another issue they often see are vehicles bombarded with snow balls while driving down the road. They say this is especially dangerous because it can startle a driver or impair their vision.
