Jupiter Opposition

Tonight, February 6, 2015, Earth passes between the Sun and the planet Jupiter. Jupiter appears to be opposite of the Sun and closest to the Earth at this time. Jupiter also appears to be bigger and brighter. This can be observed by looking in the Eastward direction as the sun sets. Even though there are some clouds, you will still be able to spot the bright Jupiter around midnight tonight.
Jupiter comes into opposition every 13 months which is the time it takes for the Earth to travel once around Jupiter. If you face Jupiter directly, the planet Venus will be positioned directly behind you. You will be able to spot Jupiter, or at least know that Jupiter will always be located opposite from the Sun during the month of February.
A fun fact about Jupiter: it is the largest planet in our solar system!
