Jan. 28 – UMES Honors Program Guest Speaker

We have enlisted the help of Dr. Brenda Wade, an alum and retired educator who worked for many years here at her alma mater.
Dr. Wade has arranged for a childhood friend to visit UMES on Feb. 21 as a guest speaker for Honors Program students at Leadership Forum.
You may recognize the last name; the guest is Pat Kiah, the granddaughter of Thomas Kiah, UMES’s 5th leader and one of the most important figures in the university’s early history.
Ms. Kiah currently is the head of the art department in the production of the popular network TV show, NCIS.
Dr. Wade has invited her life-long friend to come speak to the Henson Honors Program students, other UMES students and the public, about her life’s journey growing up in Princess Anne and establishing a successful career on the West Coast. (As a teenager in 1964, Ms. Kiah participated in Dr. King’s March on Washington that was celebrated a year ago, so she has lived a rich and full life.)
Dr. Wade believes Ms. Kiah can serve as an inspirational, in-person role model for our current generation of students … so the campus is excited to have her “come home.” {Ms. Kiah’s father was a professor at old Maryland State College.}
