Indian River Guts Out Comeback Win At Seaford
The Indian River boys basketball team pulled out a dramatic, come from behind win over Seaford Monday night 70-64. The win improves the Indians to 10-10, while the loss drops the Blue Jays to 5-13.
Seaford would be celebrating their senior night, and were fired up early because of it. They would take a small lead that would hold through most the first half. As the Indians tried to fight their way back into it, they would cut the deficit to just a couple points before great ball movement would lead to a Kadeem Hughes lay in to beat the buzzer.
They second half would continue to be a battle as KeiJuan Major took over, scoring 5 quick points to get his team back in it. As the game got tight, play got chippy. Kiante Sturgis would take a shot to the face, and both benches would get fired up. Play would be stopped as fans empties the bleachers and approached the court, with only a couple getting onto the hardwood. The fans and players would continue to jaw at each other for several minutes, but play would continue. The Blue Jays continued to push and would hold onto that slim lead til major worked his way to the line for several free throws late, connecting on 7/8 down the stretch to help put his team out in front. With IR up 1 with under :30 second to play, Sturgis would drive to the cup and score an and 1 to ice the game.
The game concluded the season for the Blue Jays, while Indian River still has a chance of making the post season and now waits to see if they earn an bid.
