Georgetown train vs. car

Delaware State Police say that shortly after 8:00 pm, Thursday,  a man driving a 2003 Hyundai Sonata was driving along Park Avenue in Georgetown and struck a moving train. Police say the 45 year-old driver approached the 79 car Norfolk-Southern train, and he failed to stop in time.

Because of the speed of the moving train, police say it spun the car around when it made contact. The vehicle, in turn, hit a nearby electrical pole, which fell into the roadway.

The Delaware Department of Transportation closed park avenue from South Bedford St. through Sussex Ave.

Police say the driver was properly restrained and uninjured in the collision.Troopers are continuing their investigation into this incident and charges are pending on behalf of the vehicle operator. The train has since left and the car has been towed.
