Delaware man arrested on 5th DUI charge

A Delaware City man is behind bars, after he reportedly tried to flee from Police, while intoxicated.
Delaware State Police say the Sussex County 911 Center received a call about a light colored pick-up truck that was all over the road on Coastal Highway, coming up to Route 9. The description was put out to area Police, and a Trooper on patrol in the area, was able to find the truck. According to the report, the Trooper watched the truck as it turned onto westbound Route 9, and then onto Plantations Road, where they attempted to pull it over.
Police say at first, the truck stopped in the shoulder of Plantations Road, but then drove off as if trying to flee. The truck apparently eventually stopped again, just south of Robinsonville Road. Authorities say as the Trooper approached the white Dodge pick-up truck, the driver was ordered to get out of the vehicle, at which he apparently tried to put the truck into drive, but the Trooper was able to physically remove the driver without further incident.
The driver was then identified as 60-year-old Vernon Wilson. Troopers say they smelled alcohol, and following a DUI investigation, Wilson was charged with his fifth offense driving under the influence of alcohol, disregarding a Police Officer’s signal, along with various other traffic offenses.
Wilson has previous DUI convictions from 1989, 1991, 1999, and 2000. He is now being held at Sussex Correctional Institution on a $19,104 cash bond.
