Clippers Down Warriors At Home

The James M. Bennett High School boy’s basketball team downed Mardela Tuesday night, 71-59, after a strong second quarter opened up the game for the Clippers to coast to the victory. Bennett improves to 9-7 for the season, while the Warriors move to 4-13.

Trading baskets throughout the first quarter, the Clippers grabbed just a two-point lead through eight minutes of play. It was the second quarter that Bennett needed to spread the score and coast to the win, outscoring the Warriors, 21-9. The final two quarters the Clippers outscored Mardela, but the Warriors held its own, just unable to close the deficit.

The Clippers were led by Barry Gaines with a game-high 26 points and Mike Jean Charles’ 25 points, while Mardela was paced by Caleb Corbin and Nate McCoy with 20 and 19 points, respectively.

Bennett travels to Stephen Decatur on Thursday at 5:30 for its next game. The Warriors head home for a matchup against the best squad in the Bayside Conference in Wicomico on Thursday at 4:00.
