Callahan Takes MVP As Wesley Football Hands Out Season Awards

Wesley Football, recipient of the 2014 ECAC Team of the Year award, held its annual end-of-season banquet this past Sunday, where they announced all team award winners from 2014, and recognized 21 seniors, a class that went 44-9 over the past four seasons.

Quarterback Joe Callahan was named Most Valuable Player of the season. The junior from Absecon, N.J. accepted the award after setting single season record in yards (4,190) and passing touchdowns (46), and completions in a single game (39). In addition to his historical season, Callahan was also a finalist for the Gagliardi Trophy, which goes to the top individual player in Division III encompassing athletics, academics, and community service.

Senior Steve Koudoussou was named Offensive Player of the Year. In 2014, Koudoussou set single season records with 80 receptions, 1,551 yards, and 17 touchdowns, earning him All-American honors. The Waldorf, MD native is the leading receiver in school-history totalling 230 catches, 4,059 yards, and 49 touchdowns. Koudoussou is also the school record holder with 54 total touchdowns, 328 points, and 41 consecutive games with a reception.

Three All-Americans shared Defensive Player of the Year honors.Sosthene Kapepula, Amir Petrose, and Payton Rose all heard their names called as top defender.

Kapepula was a First Team All-American selection by the AP, AFCA, and D3football.com after leading Wesley with 102 tackles. He also finished the season with 12 tackles for loss, three interceptions, 2 sacks, 2 fumble recoveries, and 2 forced fumbles. The senior out of Onley, MD was also named the South Region Defensive Player of the Year.

Petrose, a Second Team All-American, finished the season with 55 tackles, 13 sacks, and 26.5 tackles for loss, 3 forced fumbles, 2 fumble recoveries, an interception, and 14 pass breakups.

Rose, had a breakout year in his senior season. From the defensive tackle spot he amassed 68 tackles, 4 sacks, 4 forced fumbles, and led the Wolverines with 16 pass breakups. The Jessup, Md., native was also named a D3football.com All-American.
