Brown Powers WiHi Past Washington

The Wicomico high school boys basketball team picked up a critical conference win Tuesday night defeating Washington 83-78 powered by Nelson Brown’s 35 points. The win improves the Indians to 14-1, while the loss drops the Jaguars to 10-5.

Washington would jump out to the early lead led by Shakur Cottman and Deshawn Parks. The Jags would build a 10-0 and then a 22-13 lead before the Indians fought back. . WiHi’s back court of Torrey Brittingham and Nelson Brown shoulder the scoring early for the home team, finishing with 20 and 25 points respectively. The teams would be tight in the second half as well, before WiHi was finally able to grab a double digit lead thanks to Brown’s hot shooting. But again, the Jags would fight back. Cottman would score in transition to tie the game up late in the 3rd, and we would head to the 4th close again. Brittingham would then work his way to the line to help WiHi to a 10 point lead with 1:30 left in the game. But just when it looked like Washington was done, they again would claw their way back. They would score 10 straight points to tie up the game, highlighted by a Montrez Oliver steal and and 1 finish. Tied with under  a minute to go, Brown would have the biggest play of the game. He would drive left before crossing over to his right and drawing an and 1 finish to give WiHi a 3 point lead with 30 seconds to play. A Brittingham free throw would push the lead to 4, and ice the game. 

The Indians return to the court Thursday when they travel to Snow Hill, while Washington will host Stephen Decatur on Thursday.
