Applications open Feb. 23rd for Indian River School District “school choice”

School choice applications will be available on February 23rd for the Indian River School District.
The applications will either be approved or disapproved by the Board of Education. School officials will reportedly look at building capacity, a student’s discipline, and/or attendance when making the decision.
Applications for Long Neck Elementary for kindergarten through fifth grade, East Millsboro Elementary for first through fifth grade, and Lord Baltimore Elementary for first, second, fourth, and fifth grades will not be accepted because of capacity.
According to the Indian River School District, parents may still submit school choice applications for Grades 1-12 but must demonstrate “good cause.” The “good cause” form, along with state and district school choice applications, is available online.
Kindergarten applications, including those for Spanish immersion programs, will reportedly not be considered by the Board of Education until its meeting on May 18.
Parents enrolling their child in kindergarten are encouraged to submit a school choice application by April 30, 2015 at 4:00 p.m. Parents of kindergarten students must first enroll their child in their school of residence before submitting a choice application. Application forms should be mailed to Indian River School District, Attn: School Choice, 31 Hosier Street, Selbyville, DE 19975.
