Women’s Basketball Falls In MEAC Opener

The Delaware State women’s basketball team returned home for the first time since November 24th, only to drop their conference opener to Morgan State 64-56.

Del State (1-11, 0-1 MEAC) lost its eighth in a row, after leading by as many as 11 points in the first half. DSU took a 29-22 lead into halftime behind Amber Bogard’s 11, to lead all scorers. Morgan State shot just 19 percent in the first half.

In the second half, Morgan State went on a 15-0 run over five minutes, that would go on to power their victory. DSU was led by Bogard, who scored a team-high 21 points, shooting 9-14, while Tierra Hawkins pitched in with her fourth double-double of the season, 13 points and 11 boards. For the Bears, Tracy Carrington poured in a game-high 24 points, while freshman Braennan Farrar scored 14.

Delaware State continues their conference action on Monday, when they travel to Howard.
