Wildcats Surge In Fourth To Hold Off Blue Raiders
The Delmar High School boy’s basketball team overcame a late-game deficit to defeat Woodbridge, 70-66, on Tuesday night to improve to 9-2 for the season. Breaking a four-game winning streak, the Blue Raiders move to 8-5.
Closing out the third quarter on a nice run to maintain the lead over the Wildcats, Woodbridge continued the momentum into the fourth. Spreading the score to as much as six points, Delmar fought back to take its first lead of the half with 3:28 left on the clock on a drive down the lane by senior Shane Leatherbury. The Wildcats wouldn’t slow down there, as they eventually pulled away for a four-point victory, off of Leatherbury’s 12 fourth-quarter points.
Leatherbury led all scorers for the game with 25 points, while Larry Ennis chipped in for 18. The Blue Raiders were paced by Jami Ross, Hassan Corbin and Randy Dupont, all recording 14 points for the game.
Delmar welcomes Parkside (Md.) for its next game on Thursday at 6:30 p.m., while Woodbridge travels home for a game on Friday against Milford at 7:15 p.m.
