UPDATE: Smyrna man committed; charged with endangering welfare

Cortez Hamilton

A Smyrna man in connection to an Amber Alert waived extradition hearing in Indiana and was brought back to Delaware on Thursday.

Police arrested Cortez Hamilton, Sr. in Indiana, in connection to an Amber Alert issued for his two children on January 10.  Authorities say Colette Hamilton, 4, and 4-month-old Cortez Hamilton, Jr. were located that night in Indiana in the custody of their father and were found to be in safe and good condition.

Police say Hamilton Sr. was arraigned and charged with Assault (1st degree), Possession of a Deadly Weapon During Commission Of A Felony, and two counts of Endangering the Welfare. He has been committed to the James T. Vaughn Correctional Center in default of 402 thousand dollars.

A Gold Alert was also issued on January 10 for the children’s missing mother Keisha Hamilton, 34. Authorities say the Gold Alert is still in effect. She was last seen at her home on Cayhill Lane, in the Twin Willows Development in Smyrna. Hamilton is described as a black woman, standing 5’6″ tall, weighting 145 pounds, with brown hair and brown eyes.
