University of Delaware wins first game of the season

The University of Delaware won their first game of the season on Tuesday, December 30th, over St. Bonaventure 82-77. Before this win, the University of Delaware was one of three Division 1 schools to have not won a game in the 2014-2015 season.

Freshman Kory Holden, a Bennett High School alumni, played a large role in the win over St. Bonaventure on Tuesday night. Holden had a season and career high of 27 points to help his team get their first victory. Those 27 points are amongst his 124 total points on the season and they double any number of points per game so far this season.

The Blue Hens were trailing 10 points in the second half, but the University of Delaware took the lead during a 19-4 run, which was led by Holden’s 3-pointer making it 70-65 with just over four minutes to play. It wasn’t long before St. Bonaventure rallied back within one point with 1:10 left in the game, 75-74. However, the Blue Hens managed to secure the win knocking down 7 of 8 free throws to finish out the game and the win, 82-77.
