Stephen Decatur Girls Basketball Win Heavy Weight Rematch With Mardela

The Stephen Decatur girls basketball team picked up a huge win Tuesday afternoon when they traveled to Mardela and defeated the Warriors 60-54. The win improves the Seahawks to 9-1, while the loss drops the Warriors to 10-1.

The teams would be in a battle through the first quarter with neither squad grabbing much of a lead, but Decatur would deal the first blow in the second. Dayona Godwin caught fire and helped open up a 6 points lead for her team. Once she got going, Jillian Petito did a great job of running the point and finding her for good looks, while also keeping the rest of the team involved in the offense. Then Demyra Selby would pick up three quick fouls and be forced to sit the rest of the half. It looked like the Seahawks would have the opportunity to open up a big lead, but couldn’t take advantage as Dymond Trader and the rest of the Warriors did a great job hanging tough the rest of the half.

But the flood gates would open to start the second half for Decatur. They would explode offensively and all the sudden they would build a 20 point lead. But just when it looked like the game was over, Selby would lead her team back. The senior would find her rhythm offensively as they would trim the lead all the way down to just 6 points. But Godwin and company would close the door for the win.

Stephen Decatur returns to action Thursday when they travel to Wicomico High School.
