Shoplifting Numbers Decrease

The Dover Police Department says they saw a 19% drop in shoplifting complaints since launching their Shoplifter Notification Program in August.
The program posts mug-shots of people arrested for shoplifting on a weekly basis. The post is shared on social media sites and listservs to local news outlets. Studies have shown that shoplifters or only apprehended one in 48 times. The Department says feedback from local stores in the area have prompted them to keep going with the program.
Police say there were fewer than a thousand reported cases for shoplifting in 2014; the lowest since 2010. In the United States, more than $13 billion in merchandise is stolen every year.
WMDT also has word that other departments on Delmarva will be trying similar tactics.
