Sgt. Wardell Turner laid to rest

A beloved soldier from Wicomico County who was killed in Afghanistan back in November will finally be buried.

Reports say 48-year-old Sargent Major Wardell Turner of Nanticoke will be laid to rest Monday at the Arlington National Cemetery, located just outside of Washington. Allegedly majority of Turners family will be making the trip from Delmarva to Arlington for the funeral. Turner is survived by his wife, Katherine, five children – including a son who served in Afghanistan – and three grandchildren.

The Pentagon announced Turner was killed on November 24th in Kabul when his vehicle was attacked by another vehicle carrying explosive. Also killed in the same attack, 27-year-old Specialist Joseph Riley of Grove City, Ohio.
