Senator Carper promotes Earned Income Tax Credit

Friday marked Earned Income Tax Credit (“EITC”) Awareness Day, and local leaders spent the day promoting it as well as places you can get free tax preparation.

EITC is a refundable tax credit for low to moderate income working individuals and families. According to officials, nearly 20 percent of eligible Delawareans do not file for it.

US Senator Tom Carper joined representatives from Delaware organizations in Georgetown, to educate folks on the program.

“Through the Earned Income Tax Credit, which Ronald Regan called anti-poverty program in America, people are actually better off working. We want to make sure that continues to be the cause.” Explains Senator Carper.

There are a number of free tax preparation sites in New Castle, Kent, and Sussex Counties. To find the location nearest you, call First State Community Action Agency at 800-372-2240.
