Salisbury drug dealer convicted on fentanyl charges

A Salisbury man is now facing at least the minimum sentence, after being found guilty on drug distribution charges.

On Wednesday, January 7th, 31-year-old Irving Jones, was convicted of possessing fentanyl, alprazolam, and marijuana all with the intent to distribute the drugs, by a Wicomico County jury.

The charges stem from a June 19th, 2014 traffic stop, where Jones was the backseat passenger. During the stop, as the Maryland State Police Trooper approached the vehicle, he saw the front seat passenger and backseat interact, and then noticed a plastic bag coming out of the front seat passenger’s pants.

The bag had fentanyl, alprazolam, and marijuana inside, and was tossed to the front seat passenger by Jones, who told him to hide it from the Trooper. In the backseat, Jones had a digital scale, $1,004 in cash, and two cell phones.

Jones, who is awaiting sentencing, was convicted back in 2010 of possessing heroin with the intent to distribute. This leads him to face a mandatory-minimum sentence.
