Polytech Completes Season Sweep Of Dover
Senior big man Devaughn Mallory scored 18 of his game-high 19 points in the second half, as Polytech came from behind to defeat Dover 53-51.
Dover came out strong and held a 15-7 lead after one quarter, led by freshman Thomas Hoskins’ 7 first quarter points. The teams played even in the second quarter, both registering 21 points, Poly was led by Chase Chapel’s eight second quarter points, and Chapel led them with 11 at the half. Still, it was Dover leading 34-28 at the break, behind Hoskins’ 14 first half points, and 15 from Jordan Allen.
Polytech would come out of the locker room with one thing in mind, establish Mallory. the senior showed off an array of skills, pouring in 12 points in the third quarter alone. With Poly getting hot, Dover started getting cold. The Senators scored just 6 points in the third, and found themselves down five heading into the fourth. In the fourth Polytech would do just enough, to escape with a two-point victory, their 12th win of the season.
Dover (6-7) has now just two wins in their last nine games, and will host Smyrna Monday, a team who just beat them by two points on January 28th. Polytech (12-1) Hosts Hodgson Vo-Tech on Tuesday, the Eagles are 8-5 on the season.
