New healthy habits for the new year

When asked if it’s possible to go from being overweight to sporting a beach body, Dr. Victor Gong responded:
“Yes, we’ve seen people that we actually (helped them) have nice bodies.
It’s possible, but not easy. It takes a commitment to proper nutrition as well as some lifestyle changes. That means shaking bad habits, like giving into your sweet tooth.
Dr. Gong said, “instead of counting calories you might just start something simple like cut back on your sugars.”
He went on to describe the harms sugars can have on anyone’s body, “sugars are really bad for your diet for anybody whether you’re overweight or not overweight.” and “cut back on the sodas, the cookies, you’ll find your weights gonna go down.”
Sugars and carbohydrates can cripple your weight loss efforts. On the other side of that, a better meal plan paired with consistent and effective exercising could get you on track for significant weightloss.
Dr. Gong recommended various tips for optimal dieting, he said, “you should get your proteins, you should get your dairy, and you should get your vegetables and fibers.” followed by “watch your portions and like I said, let’s cut back on the sugars and cut back on the carbs.”
No matter how you decide to diet, remember to stay focused and keep your expectations realistic.
Dr. Gong said it best, stating: “don’t expect to lose 20 to 30 pounds right away. Go for 1 or 2 pounds a week. It adds up a lot. 1 pound in a week, that’s 52 pounds in a year.”
Here are some other ways Dr. Gong recommends shedding unwanted pounds:
- Don’t cut too many calories at once
- Keep eating (consume 3 meals of 300-500 calories per day)
- Skip the after work alcohol
- Drink water to flush out excess salt
- Change your workout every 4-6 weeks
- Introduce circuit training to your routine
- Have reasonable expectations for losing weight
- Enjoy smaller portions of your favorite foods
