Hundreds join in the search for missing Smyrna mother

Nearly 400 volunteers joined the search on Sunday for 35-year-old Keisha Hamilton, a Smynra mother of four, who disappeared more than two weeks ago from her home.
Police say Keisha was last seen on Cayhill Lane, at home with her two children, which is about five miles away from where Sunday’s search began. Volunteers were split into 14 groups and scoured both east and west of Route 13, specifically in Cheswold and Smyrna.
Several members of the Delaware State Police Department were also at the search.
“We’re asking homeowners and any people who have private businesses, if they’ve seen something disturbed, suspicious, or just out of place to contact 911 and we can help with that search.” Explains Sergeant Richard Bratz.
An amber alert was issued for two of her children, Colette and Cortez, on Saturday January 10th. Police issued a Gold Alert for Keisha that same night.
Keisha’s mother Shirley Craig tells 47 ABC, she prays for her daughter’s safe return everyday.
“If I had a worst enemy, I wouldn’t want them to feel the pain and pressure that I’m going through right now because it’s indescribable to have a missing child.” Says Craig.
Both of Craig’s grandchildren were found later that night in Indiana with their father Cortez Hamilton, Sr. who has been committed to the James T. Vaughn Correctional Center. Police are not saying whether they believe he had anything to do with Keisha’s disappearance.
Despite their grief, the family is remaining positive. Deja Belle Johnson, a close friend of the family, says they’re staying strong and giving thanks to the community.
“This is a family of love and this is a family that believes in supporting each other. We take care of each other, and we’re going to continue to do that and we’re so grateful for the community for providing the level of support that they have.” Says Belle Johnson.
Police are urging anyone with any information on Keisha Hamilton’s whereabouts to contact Detective David Weaver at 302-741-2728.
