Hornets’ Upset Bid Comes Up Short At Temple

The Temple Owls knocked down eight second half three pointers to hold off Delaware State 66-56 at the Liacouras Center in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

The Hornets (5-8) trailed by as many as 14 points, but hung around in the second half. Temple (9-4) led 31-21 at the half, but Delaware State cut the deficit to four (34-30) with 16 minutes to play. The Owls led by 9 (52-43) with 7:45 left in the half, and 8 (59-51) with 2:56 remaining on their way to a 10 point win. In total, the Owls knocked down 11 three’s on the night, including 8 from 16 in the second half.

DSU was led by guard Amere May’s game high 22 points, his fourth game with 20 points or more. May also grabbed a career-high seven rebounds in the game. Kendall Gray returned after missing one game to record his seventh double-double of the season. (11 points, 15 rebounds)

The Hornets will return to action on January 5th against Cheyney (Pa.), tip-off is set for 7 p.m. in Memorial Hall on the campus of Delaware State University.
