DuPont’s Buzzer Beater Downs Dover
Woodbridge boys basketball defeated Dover High School Monday afternoon 65-64 off a buzzer beater from Randy DuPont. The win improves the Blue Raiders to 6-4, while the loss drops the Senators to 5-4.
The teams would go back and forth to start as Dover would grab the early lead. Jordan Allen would have the hot hand from distance and his teams was able to knock down several difficult shots. Woodbridge on the other hand executed in the half court and broke down the Senators full court press for several easy buckets. Woodbridge would be down 3 after the first, but Randy DuPont would lead them back in the second. He would finish at the rack while setting up teammates for uncontested lay ins helping his team to a 31-29 lead at the break.
The Senators came out firing in the third quarter and quickly built up a double digit lead. But just when it looked like they had the Blue Raiders on the ropes, it was Woodbridge that would find the answer. They would finish the third on a 13-3 run sparked by DuPont again, who would hit a tough lay in at the buzzer to give his team a 47-44 lead going to the 4th.
Their Dover would battle back again and find themselves tied with under 2 minutes to play. There DuPont would knock down a 3 to give his team the lead before Allen would answer with a couple free throws. The teams would again be tied with under 20 seconds to play when the Senators would come up with a block defensively to spark a fast break that Terrance Woodlin would convert on the other end to give Dover a 2 point lead with 8.5 seconds left. DuPont would then go to the hole where he was fouled and would go to the line for two. After making the first, he would miss the second but follow his shot and get the rebound and put back as time expired for the win.
DuPont finished with 17 points, while Lake would add 12 points and Corbins had 12 points. Dover was led by Allen’s 22 points, Woodlin’s 11 points and Pettit’s 7 points.
Dover returns to action Tuesday when they host Sussex Tech, while Woodbridge returns to the court Tuesday to host Seaford.
