DSU Men’s Basketball Race Past Savannah St.
The Delaware State University men’s basketball team defeated Savannah State Monday night 59-50. The win improves the Hornets to 9-9 on the year.
The Hornets would find themselves trailing early on as the the Tigers defensively would slow DSU’s attack. As the first half wore on, it became clear it was going to be a defensive battle as neither team was able to grab much of a lead. Kendall Gray opened the game as a force on the boards, pulling down 7 in the games first 6 minutes. The Hornets would’ve been in big trouble if not for Amere May who had the hot hand, finishing the half with 12 points. Still, DSU found themselves down 29-21 at the break.
Things changed in the second half though. Other pieces found their rhyme offensively as shots began to drop for the Hornets. Defensively, they weren’t let anything by as Gray anchored the back in. The senior finished with 8 points, 17 rebounds, and 3 blocks. DSU would open the half on a 23-6 run and go on to take the game down the stretch.
DSU returns to action this weekend when they start a four game road trip, starting at North Carolina A&T on Saturday.
