Delmar teen sentenced to 10 years in Parkside HS rape

Jocori Scarborough was sentenced to 10 years in prison for raping a 15-year-old student during school hours at Parkside High School back in May.

He will also serve one consecutive year in prison for a gun charge, which he received just days after being arrested for rape.

Scarborough was found guilty on all counts, including second degree rape, during a trial in October. During that trial, the 15-year-old victim painfully and tearfully rehashed the events. Prosecutors told 47 ABC after the trial that they felt the victim’s testimony played a big part in the jury’s decision.

Scarborough’s attorney, Edward Gonzalez, never denied the two had sexual intercourse, but he argued there was no proof of force. The family’s legal advisor, Lamarr Brown, maintains that Scarborough and the victim had a prior relationship, and he never raped her.

“This was a simple casual relationship,” says Brown. “Even if he pays his debt to society, just the encounter with this young lady has labeled him as a registered sex offender for life.”

Brown says Scarborough’s family is the discussing the possibility of an appeal.
