Delaware State University honors Martin Luther King, Jr.

To celebrate the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Delaware State University held their annual national holiday program on Monday.

While many students across the county — and even some parents — had a day off, the school says it was more of a day ‘on’ not ‘off’. Hundreds gathered at the Education and Humanities Theatre on campus.

A number of speakers, including local leaders, were joined by an variety of performances which varied from praise dances to music. They all were performed by local organizations.

Thomina McIntyre is the director of the youth choir at Mt. Zion AME in Dover and led a group of children as they sang in front of the large audience.

“For children to take this day, which most children could be home, laying around with video games, to see many so many children here to celebrate, it’s just amazing.” Explains McIntyre.

The keynote speaker was James Collins, who serves as the Chief Information Officer for the first state. James previously served as the Deputy Secretary of State for Delaware.
