Blood bank urges for more donors

Monday marks the first full week of National Blood Donor Month. Due to the ongoing flu epidemic, local blood bank officials say they urgently need donors.
We’re told current blood inventories are not adequate. Officials from the Blood Bank of Delmarva say they’re greatest need is “O” negative, the universal blood type, but all blood types are welcome.
Platelet donors are also urged to schedule appointments. According to health officials, platelets have a shelf life of just five days, so it’s especially important they maintain an adequate supply.
The Blood Bank of Delmarva has five permanent donor centers. To find the closest one near you, visit the Blood Bank Of Delmarva’s website.
