Va. gov to head Chesapeake Executive Council

Starting next year, Virginia Gov. Terry McAuliffe will head a council responsible for Chesapeake Bay restoration efforts.
    
McAuliffe will assume the chairmanship of the Chesapeake Executive Council beginning Jan. 1. He succeeds Maryland Gov. Martin O’Malley who is ending his second term as governor.
    
The council is the governing body for the multi-state and federal partnership known as the Chesapeake Bay Program.
    
It’s comprised of the governors of Virginia, Maryland, Pennsylvania, Delaware, New York and West Virginia and others.
    
McAuliffe called the Chesapeake Bay a national treasure and an enormous economic asset for Virginia and neighboring states.
