UMES Men’s Basketball Win Home Opener Vs. UMBC
Princess Anne, MD – The University of Maryland Eastern Shore men's basketball team won their home opener Tuesday night, defeating UMBC 65-52. The win improves the Hawks to 3-6 on the year.
UMES came out firing early, connecting on several three between Devin Martin and Devon Walker. The pair finished with 15 points and 16 points respectively. The Hawks would quickly build up a double digit lead and would hold onto it with solid defensive play. Michael Myers anchored the team on both ends of the court, showing the full repertoire of offensive skills. Hitting outside jumpers, power post moves, and passing out of double teams to the open man.
Myers would hit a jump hook at the buzzer of the first half to give his team a 39-16 lead going into the break. The Retrievers would come out firing in the second half and get back within 13 late, but the Hawks would eventually close the door for the win.
UMES returns to action Friday when they Host North Carolina Central.
