Three steps to help your new holiday pet transition to it’s new home

If Santa came down the chimney and left a pet under your tree on Christmas Day, you might want to get your new friend acclimated to it’s environment.
An official at the Wicomico County Humane Society tells 47 ABC the top 3 ways to ensure your new pet will make a smooth transition from a shelter to your home.
According to a local animal expert, time, safety, and health are the 3 biggest factors to keep in mind while you help your new pet transition into it’s new home.
“time, the animal needs time to acclimate for the house, safety you want to make sure again not to have that animal escape, and the third thing is vet care, make sure the new animal has been vetted, you’ve taken it to the vet to make sure it’s healthy for the home.” Said David Fitzgerald of the Wicomico County Humane Society.
The Humane Society also tells 47 ABC that early indications show that they may have had their best year ever for animal adoptions.
