Talbot Co. man sentenced for poaching

A Talbot County man will spend the next year behind bars, plus 6 months of home detention for poaching.

41 year-old William Lednum pleaded guilty for illegally harvesting and selling 186 striped bass from the Chesapeake Bay.

Lednum’s apparent co-conspirator, Michael Hayden, also pleaded guilty.

It appears the two men were involved in this poaching scheme for more than 5 years.

Lednum admitted to concealing his crimes by falsifying documents to the State of Maryland.

In addition to his time behind bars, Lednum has also been ordered to pay almost $500,000 in restitution, for damage caused to the striped bass fishery.
