SU men’s basketball defeats CNU

The Salisbury University Seagulls took down their rival, the Christopher Newport University Captains, 54-48. The Gulls pulled off the win over the Captains after being down at half time, 24-22.

SU started a little slow and, as some of the players mentioned, their shooting was not great to start, but they finished strong. Gordon Jeter and Conor Strickland led their team with 10 points a piece, closely followed by Kyle Savercool who finished with 9 points. Unfortunately for the Gulls, Strickland left the game late in the second half with what appeared to be an injury to his ankle. The coaching staff is hoping for a quick for Strickland because he brings a lot to the team.

CNU kept the game close right till the very end of the game, but could not finish out the game for the win. The top performers for the Captains were Marcus Carter with 12 points and 4 rebounds and Brendon Burrows with 8 points and 4 rebounds.

In the post-game interview, Jeter said the team met earlier on Wednesday morning to discuss the game and attributes the meeting as part of why the team played so well.

With this win, the Gulls sit just below a .500 record at 4-5. SU men’s basketball resumes to action on December 29, at Baruch in Richmond, Virginia at 5:00 pm.
