Salisbury Jaycees Sponsor Children’s Christmas Shopping Tour
SALISBURY, Md.- The 5 a.m. call time didn't seem to hold back
young holiday shoppers at the North Salisbury Walmart Saturday morning. 195
underprivileged elementary school kids flooded the retailer for a little
Christmas shopping spree, all funded by the Salisbury Jaycees and Jaycees
Foundation.
Emily Nock, the Salisbury
Jaycees chapter president says, “Christmas is something that no child should
miss out on just because of whatever their circumstances are.”
The children were all
selected by their school counselors, and once they arrived at Walmart, they received
a $70 budget, a chaperon, and were sent off with a cart to fill.
Kaimais Love, Pinehurst Elementary's
Assistant Principal says, “I was working with Amya and at first we were talking
about what she wanted to purchase, and she didn't really want know at first but
when she figured out what she wanted she was focused.”
She was focused right on
the toy isle.
Amya Bolling, a third
grader says, “I got Orbee body spa, nail polish, and a thing where you can make
Barbie dresses and a pack of gum.”
However, Amya says she plans
on sharing these items.
Brenda Price, Jaycees
Foundation President says,”They don't come shopping just for themselves, they
come shopping for their siblings, their mom, their dad and they're such
unselfish children, they want everybody to have a part in it.”
That's what Amya is hoping
for, she says she's planning to try out her new spa kit at home with and her
cousin.
