Petito Guides Decatur To Win Over Nandua
The Stephen Decatur girls basketball team picked up another win Tuesday night when they defeated Nandua 51-23. The win improves the Seahawks to 6-1 on the year.
Decatur jumped out to a big lead early on as Jillian Petito had complete control of the offense. The Warriors had no answer for Petito’s penetration, and once she got by her initial defender, she read the help side defense beautiful. Petito showed the full array of passes, dropping assists to the back side post, kicking out to shooters, or finding teammates cutting to the hole. What made the performance even more impressive is that the Seahawks were without their top scorer Dayona Godwin as she nurses a sprained ankle. Decatur would take an 11-4 lead into the second before watching their lead balloon to 19-6 by half. The team defense had the Warriors looking for answers all night long, but Nandua never gave up and battled til the final whistle.
Offensively the Seahawks showed great balance, getting 13 points from Marina Jones, while Amya Mumford finished with 10 and Petito chipped in 9. The Warriors were led by Risgins 8 points.
