Morning Fire Displaces 12 People

The Delaware State Fire Marshal’s office is investigating a morning house fire that has displaced twelve people, including eight children and four adults.
Authorities say around 2:00 a.m. Saturday, the Mill Creek Fire Company found a house engulfed in flames at the 2400-block of Hammond Place.
We’re told a person driving by the home saw the fire and called 911.
The single story home sustained heavy fire damage estimated at $50,000. According to officials, a smoke alarm inside the home was not properly operating. They say it was due to lack of maintenance.
The 12 displaced people are being assisted the American Red Cross.
There were no injuries reported.
Deputy fire marshals are currently searching for the origin and cause of the fire.
