Duff Score’s 1K in Bennett Big Win
Jorden Duffy had a night that he will never remember. James M. Bennett boys basketball team returned home to take on Crisfield, coming away with a 93-63 win. The Clippers guard though, was a story onto himself. He came into Friday night 39 points shy of reaching a career mark of 1,000. A near impossible feat for most.
But not Duffy.
Jorden opened the game getting his teammates involved while still scoring when the opportunity presented itself. That lead his team to an early 21-11 lead after the first, and him just 27 points shy of the mark. Bennett would continue to push in the second quarter, while Duffy poured in another 6 points, and moved just 21 points from the mark.
The Crabbers would begin to lock down defensively and found themselves trying to fight their way back into the game. But Duffy knew this was his night. He entered the final frame 13 points shy of the mark. Four minutes into that frame, and he was still 11 away.
Then he caught fire. With three minutes left, he connected on two straight 3’s before getting a back door lay in to go, to climb within a single point. The next time down the floor, he was fouled on his way to the basket, earning a trip to the line.
The crowd was silenced as he calmly netted the first free throw, and had his 1,000th point. The game stopped while he took a moment to take it all in with his teammates, coaches, and fans. After hitting the second freethrow to finish with 40 points, he was pulled from the game to a standing ovation.
Barry Gaines also had a great game for the Clippers, finishing with 26 while the Crabbers were led by Jawayne Taylor’s 21 pts, and Jordan Sterling’s 11 pts.
