Cavanaugh Goes Down In Queen Anne’s Loss

The Queen Anne’s boys basketball dropped a tough one Friday night to Saint Joseph by the Sea 78-74 in overtime. The Lions grabbed an early lead but weren’t able to make the plays down the stretch to close it out.

The Lions jumped out to an early lead thanks to their dynamic guard Brendan Cavanaugh. The guard would shoot 6-9 from the floor in the first half on his way to 19 points and helping give his team a big lead headed into the break. He kept up his scoring in the 3rd, connecting on a long ball followed by back to back lay ins to push the Lions lead to double figures half way through the period.

That’s when the whole game changed. Cavanaugh would reach in for a steal on a press and take a shot to the face, resulting in him leaving the contest to get 6 stitches. The Lions never looked the same once he left. Their lead slowly evaporated and eventually the Vikings would take the lead. The Lions would be able to force overtime but just were unable to make enough plays down the stretch to hold on.
