2015 school start date on the minds of DE legislators

While summer may still be months away, the 2015 school year start date is already on the minds of some Delaware legislators.
Senator Gerald Hocker (R-Ocean View) sent a letter to business leaders statewide to generate for support of moving the start date for all public schools in Delaware until after Labor Day.
According to the Delaware Department of Education website, only four districts in Kent and Sussex County have done so.
In the letter, Senator Hocker says the findings of a recent Labor Day Task Force, show the early school start is hurting business revenue and is taking away staff on one of the busiest weekends of the year.
His letter asks for support if a bill is drafted during their next session, which begins on January 13th.
