UMES Men’s Basketball Open Season With Win Vs. SU

Princess Anne, MD – The University of Maryland Eastern Shore Men's basketball team opened their 2015 season with a win Tuesday night when they defeated Salisbury University 70-51 win. The contest counted as a game for the Hawks, where as it counted as an exhibition game for the Sea Gulls.

The Hawks would score the first bucket of the game before the Sea Gulls would answer with a long ball to take their only lead of the game. UMES went on a good run to open up a double digit lead while the Sea Gulls were cold shooting at the start. Eventually the shooting would pick up though and the Sea Gulls started to chip away at the lead. SU ran their sets very effectively all night, where as the Hawks had much superior athletes but lacked offensive discipline and settled for one on one shots far too much.

Eventually the Hawks got into the bonus but missed several free throws to keep the game close in the first half. In the second half, the Hawks would pull away and hold on for the win. The Sea Gulls were lead by Justin May's 16 points, 3 rebound, while Justin Witmer chipped in 14 points and a rebound and Gordon Jeter registered 5 points and 6 rebounds. On the other side, the Hawks were lead by Devin Martin who finished with 20 points and 5 rebounds and 3 assists, Devon Walkers 12 points and 9 rebounds and Michael Myers 19 points and 8 rebounds.
